ATLANTIC VOCAL GROUPS

This pairing of 2-CD sets released by Collectors Choice in 1995 and 1996 is an outstanding presentation of 100 examples of vocal group work on the Atlantic label and its subsidiaries from the early 1950s to the early 1960s. Combining well-known "hit" performances with items of the "collectors only" variety, and including several previously unreleased items makes this a package worthy of any R&B / doo-wop CD collection.

Even though the "Rhino" logo appears on the packaging, these 2 sets appear to be available exclusively from Collectors Choice. They are NOT available from the Rhino web site. Rhino personnel were involved in their production because Rhino is not an "independent" label any more, but is presently the reissue arm of the Warner-Elektra-Atlantic combine that owns (among other properties) all the Atlantic material. Rhino even produces some items that are issued by the Collectables label, so this comes as no real surprise.

These CDs are reasonably priced and highly recommended. The track listings below should provide sufficient detail. Dates shown are those of the recording sessions.
